COIMBATORE: Peelamedu Police in the city of Coimbatore arrested a Real estate broker for robbing the director of a real estate company of Rs 82 lakh on June 9.
The arrested man was identified as SM Ravikumar alias Kennedy, 47, of MGR Nagar in Sowripalayam.
Peelamedu Investigation Wing Police said Ravikumar approached residents of Palladam and Kamanaickenpalayam in Tirupur district a few years ago to register sites in Paruvai in their name and collected more money from them. one million rupees. But he was unable to save the plots. Those concerned approached the police in Palladam and Kamanaickenpalayam to file a complaint against Ravikumar.
Ravikumar assured people that he would return their amount on June 10. During this time, Ravikumar used to identify sites and sell them to Sigaram garden developers at Jeeva Nagar in Coimbatore where B Leo Maria Irudhayaraj of Pothiyankadu worked as manager.
At around 9:30 a.m. on June 9, Leo kept Rs 82 lakh in an office locker. Ravikumar came around 10:15 a.m. and assaulted Leo with a hammer and a hacksaw blade. He took the money from the locker and managed to escape in a car.
Based on Leo’s complaint, Peelamedu Police registered a robbery case and formed a task force. Inspector Amutha and his team arrested Ravikumar on Sunday evening and recovered Rs 19,90,500 from him. During interrogation, Ravikumar told police that he was unable to return the money he collected from residents of Palladam and Kamanaickenpalayam and therefore stole silver. He returned Rs 50 lakh to the residents of Palladam and Kamanaickenpalayam. He also added that the rest of the Rs 12,10,500 had bloodstains. So, he threw the sum in a place in Kerala.
He was taken into custody. Police plan to take him into custody for further investigation.
